The "hero" manager
Your managers are overworked because they are still doing the technical work, fearing that delegation means failure.
Your specialists are used to solving problems, it is what they do best. But when they become leaders, “fixing it yourself” becomes a bottleneck.
Great leaders in complex environments do not just deliver projects, they build the capacity of the people around them. They stop being the only person who knows the answer and start developing a team that can find the answer themselves.
However, this shift requires a new skillset. It requires the ability to coach and mentor. Our courses help delegates empower others to fulfil their potential. We support your managers in driving career progression and building a culture where employees thrive, rather than just survive the next deadline.
At The Thrive Team, we offer a variety of training courses that help clients develop practical coaching and mentoring skills.
Whether you are learning the basics or taking the next step in developing existing skills, we teach your team how to support direct reports, peers, and even customers.
We train your team to understand and apply two distinct but complementary disciplines:
Coaching is a way to empower individuals to get to where they want to be. It focuses on creating a safe environment and a positive process where the answer comes from the learner, not the teacher.
We teach your managers how to ask, not tell, helping them support team members to be the best version of themselves at work.
Mentoring is a learning relationship between a trusted, experienced role model and a learner. It involves guidance, developmental conversations, and the sharing of hard-earned expertise.
We teach your senior leaders how to structure these relationships to ensure knowledge transfer happens effectively.
There is widespread consensus that mentorship plays a critical role in personal and professional success. In fact, 98% of US Fortune 500 companies have adopted mentoring programmes.
Our workshops help you become an effective mentor or coach so you can better support individuals within your organisation. This delivers enormous value in three key areas:
You accelerate the development of your junior engineers, reducing the time it takes for them to become productive.
You ensure that critical knowledge doesn’t walk out the door when a senior leader retires.
Employees who feel mentored are more engaged. Investment in these skills positively impacts employee engagement and loyalty.
Our training is interactive, practical, and tailored to high-performance professional environments. All coaching and mentoring programmes are customised to the specific needs of your organisation and your people.
Course Modules often include:
Investment: Price on application (available as in-house workshops)
Sometimes you need an outsider. We offer Coaching Services provided by our own team.
We can help you design and implement a company-wide Mentoring structure.
If you need managers who already have these skills, we can find them with our Engineering Search service.
What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?
Coaching is about pulling the answer out of the individual to build their independent thinking. Mentoring is about putting knowledge in, using your experience to guide them. Our training covers when to use which mode.
Is this for HR or Line Managers?
It is primarily for Line Managers. While HR facilitates the process, it is the Engineering Managers, Project Directors, and Team Leads who have the daily interactions that define the culture. They are the ones who need these skills most.
Can we run this for a specific project team?
Yes. Training a project leadership team together establishes a common language and culture of support, which can be vital for high-pressure programmes.
Let’s talk about coaching and mentoring skills.
