Celebrating International HR Day: Spotlight on Resilience

International Human Resources Day is celebrated on 20th May every year to highlight the contribution of HR professionals across the world. HR professionals play a vital role in driving organisational success by managing a company’s most valuable asset – its employees.

They face a wide range of challenges and pressures in their daily work, from managing employee relations to navigating complex employment laws to supporting the business’s strategic goals. These demands can be mentally and emotionally taxing, and HR professionals need to be resilient to cope with them effectively.

Why HR Professionals Need to be resilient

To facilitate change: HR professionals must be able to adapt to changing circumstances, whether it’s a shift in the business’s strategy or the introduction of new employment laws. Resilience allows them to cope with change effectively, stay focused on their goals, and maintain a positive outlook.

To manage stress: HR professionals often deal with high-pressure situations, such as resolving employee conflicts or conducting performance reviews. Resilience helps them manage stress effectively, reducing the risk of burnout and ensuring that they can perform at their best.

To support employees: HR professionals play a critical role in supporting employee well-being, from providing mental health support to creating a positive work environment. Resilience helps them stay calm and empathetic when supporting employees, ensuring that they can provide effective support when it’s needed most.

To navigate complex situations: HR professionals must be able to navigate complex and sometimes sensitive situations, such as discrimination claims or disciplinary actions. Resilience allows them to approach these situations with confidence, make difficult decisions, and communicate effectively with employees and management.

To drive business success: HR professionals are responsible for driving the business’s success by recruiting and retaining top talent, creating a positive workplace culture, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. Resilience helps them stay focused on these goals, adapt to changing circumstances, and overcome challenges to drive the business’s success.

Challenged Resilience Levels

Resilience levels have certainly been challenged in the last couple of years. Covid has only increased the pressure on HR professionals, as they work to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of work. From remote work arrangements to mental health support, HR professionals have been at the forefront of managing the pandemic’s impact on the workforce. The pandemic has highlighted the value of HR professionals but also added pressure, as they have had to adapt quickly to support employee wellbeing and business’s survival.

Resilience for HR professionals

Resilience is often referred to as ‘bounceback-ability’ but often we want to do more than ‘bounce back’, we want to move forward.

To celebrate International Human Resources Day, we are offering a free one-hour taster session of our Building Resilience in You – Helping You to THRIVE workshop to HR professionals on June 19th at 12pm. This session is an opportunity for HR professionals to experience the benefits of building resilience, learning new skills to help them to thrive in their role.

If you are an HR professional and would like to a place on our workshop you can sign up here.

If you aren’t an HR professional we’d invite you to celebrate the work of HR professionals and pass this offer on to the HR professionals you know.
