The Thrive Team collaborating in a modern office environment.

Who looks after the people who look after others?

Every day, people across organisations find themselves supporting colleagues through difficult situations. Whether you’re a manager, HR professional, Mental Health First Aider, wellbeing champion or simply someone others trust, providing support can be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding.

Without the right tools, helping others can lead to stress, compassion fatigue and burnout. This practical session will help you understand how to support others while protecting your own wellbeing.

Who is it for?

This course is ideal for:

  • Managers and team leaders
  • HR professionals
  • Mental Health First Aiders
  • Wellbeing champions
  • Safeguarding and support staff
  • Anyone who regularly supports colleagues through challenges at work

You’ll gain practical strategies to help others effectively whilst maintaining healthy boundaries and protecting your own wellbeing.

What will I learn?

By the end of the session you will:

  • Understand why supporting others can feel emotionally draining
  • Recognise the signs of compassion fatigue and emotional overload
  • Learn the difference between empathy and compassion and why it matters
  • Develop practical strategies for maintaining healthy boundaries
  • Build simple recovery techniques to use before, during and after challenging conversations
  • Feel more confident supporting others without taking their struggles home with you

This session can be tailored specifically to your organisation’s policies and support options and include any specific wellbeing messages you would like to convey.

It can be adapted into various formats and delivered online or in person:

  • Taster (1.5 hours) – An introduction to the core themes, ideal for teams who want to explore the subject before committing to a deeper programme
  • Half day – A more immersive experience with time to reflect, discuss, and practise the tools
  • Full day – The complete programme, covering all themes in depth with space for personal application and group work
