Find Fresh Perspectives on Challenges

Welcome to another edition of Making the Most of Mondays! This week, we’re exploring creative problem-solving and how it can help us tackle challenges with fresh perspectives.

The Power of Creative Problem-solving

Creative problem-solving goes beyond conventional thinking. It involves approaching issues from different angles, challenging assumptions, and generating innovative solutions. This approach can lead to breakthroughs in areas where traditional methods have fallen short.

Key Creative Problem-solving Techniques

Trying different techniques can boost creative problem-solving. Here are a few that you and your team can try:

Brainstorming – Generate as many ideas as possible without judgment.

Mind Mapping – Visually organise information to see new connections.

Reverse Thinking – Consider the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve.

SCAMPER – Use this acronym (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Reverse) to prompt different ways of thinking about a problem.

Six Thinking Hats – Look at the problem from different perspectives (facts, emotions, risks, benefits, creativity, process).

Implementing Creative Problem-solving in Your Workplace

Here are some ways to build a culture of creative problem-solving:

  • Encourage diverse perspectives in team discussions.
  • Create a safe space for sharing unconventional ideas.
  • Allocate time for creative thinking exercises.
  • Reward innovative solutions, even if they don’t always succeed.
  • Provide training in creative thinking techniques.

Benefits for Your Team

A team skilled in creative problem-solving is more adaptable, innovative, and resilient. It can lead to improved products or services, more efficient processes, and a more engaging work environment.

This Week’s Challenge

Choose a current challenge your team is facing. Set aside 30 minutes this week to apply one of the creative problem-solving techniques mentioned above. Involve your team and see what innovative solutions you can generate together.

Here’s to a week of innovative thinking and breakthrough solutions!
